Blew an oil cooler line on a trip up North & since have a mild knock on idle that then goes to an audible ticking sound with higher revs.

Oil pressure appears normal & doesn't seem to be any change in the engine, such as smoking.. since.. so figure.. maybe the head & pistons/rings/head were unaffected.

Had a friend listen to the motor & he figures a big end on a rod may be out. Gonna take it to a few folks beginning early next wk to see what they think.

Soo.. pretty sure the engine has to be changed & not sure if any year turbo engine from the w123 model is Ok or if I have to stick to an 85 engine.

Drove the car (milked it) as is on a 4 hr return trip to Toronto & doesn't seem to be any worse.

Had the valve cover off since & appears normal in there.

Also looking for someone to take on the job.

Pls PM. tia

300k miles on the engine, unknown history; ran great up to this point (only had the car around a mth) & mighta been some blow by going on.

I live in the NW end of the city.

Ok, found a few used engine scenarios & am now looking for someone to do the job in the Toronto (I'm in the North/West) area, or close by? Car still runs.. Any recommendations for someone who does private work on the side where I might get a better deal?

Going rate at regular outfits for a straight swap seems to be about 800 bucks.

Kipling Finch but car runs so Toronto area is good. Probably gonna rent a pickup to get an engine & need to setup the job so as to drop off the replacement engine.

Hi

you can take every OM617A from a W123 or W126 Turbodiesel. They are nearly identical. Only the california-version has 10hp less because of enviromental regulations.

Deal fell thru on the engine I was looking at so ..still looking for an engine. Ideal engine would be form another 85 W123 300D cos that would be a straight swap.

Any 5 cyl turbo diesel engine would work though. Short (or long) block Ok too.
