There is no collectible value of a C36 Or C43 right now you can pick up that C43 for about 8 grand and there is a C36 for about half of that right now. Problem with the collectible value is the C36 and C43 looks like any other C class from that era and not desirable to anyone but Mercedes fanatics. 1996-1997 M3s are going from 12,000-15,000 on the auto trader this is the car that everyone wants... The price tells you about the current desirability's we can only speculate what will be a future classic. I think the idea is to buy a car before it even starts to become a classic. The reason why the E36 M3's are at 12k to 14k is because they are at that stage now, i remember last year i almost bought a red M3 its was practically brand new, but i was still short on cash, other wise i would have bought a red E36 M3 almost brand new in condition and it would have been worth 12k today. i personally think someday the C36, will have a chance to be classics. i don't know about C43, but among the old AMG's the only other AMG's at the German AMG Meusuem is the C36 and w210 E55. If a C36 is in an AMG museum, it WILL become a classic someday ;) As for those really low priced C43 and C36 Andrew, your forgetting one thing, every car model has those crappy lemons and abused cars that sell for peanuts, every other REASONABLE condition C36 i have searched for is from 14k to 16k and C43's starting from 18k up to almost 25k ! these are the real good ones that matter. I know the 8k C43 your talking about, i have taken it for a test drive and seen it, its GARBAGE, abused to the nut sack, and it has major work needed, paints not great either, and runs rough. Interiors is very dirty too. All i know is for some odd reason C280's hold their value, c220, c230 don't they are dirt cheap. C230 k's also hold their values much more longer and stable too like the C280 sports. .............. Hot Rodder, i have nothing more to say dude, i was just representing my opinion, but it seems you would like a longer debate.lol i give up in that case, we all have our reasons and beliefs, lets just keep it at that. ............. All i know about older clean cars is that chicks dig rare cars. We can only go so fast before a chick shits herself in a fast car. Chicks can tell a guys got charector and style and is different when he's rocking such a car, oh and shoes are importat too, the one's on your feet.lol i personally love older, un common cars. |

![]() FYI today this thing is as fast as a Chevy Cavalier... but then are some old Ferrari I thought I mentioned that those old E190 aren't fast by todays standards. But in my opinion the looks of this car and the amg c class especially with that rally style body kits look really nice. and butter fly doors are heavy and tacky... |

LOL an interesting "pro" aspect of a 202 a guy bought for $500 with 451,000miles 1999 C230 Kompressor
I sold the ignition control module (for $500) to purchase my new car, a 91 Vw GTI. So to basically recap the last 18,000 or so miles in a few sentences.... 1. It still goes 140 mph 2. It pulls heavy s*** great when I put the hitch on it. 3. It runs/shifts like s*** with 87 octane, and gains 60 HP with 93 octane lol 4. The factory Bose speakers thump to hell still to this day. 5. window regulators are expensive 6. enough places to hide/stash s*** from the cops. 7. THE WORST SNOW CAR f***ing EVER. PERIOD. 8. The car is still fast as a bat and the supercharger STILL whines! 9. The seats are like new 10. wires are expensive, ignition control modules are more. 11. The back tires dont last very long because of how I drove it 12. you can haul lots of scrap , and pull cars and small boats with this car 13. one hell of a conversation piece..... 14. "lets see your car when its got 650,000miles on it, smart a**" 15. the doors still close tightly, the abs works, heated seats still work, power mirrors work, rear headrests work, sun roof works and doesnt leak, hvac works...hell everything works 16. in 18,000 miles of ownership , I changed the oil twice, threw new front pads at it, new tires, and a serp belt. thats IT. NOTHING ELSE BROKE!!! 17. I abused this car every chance i got. I red lined it WHENEVER I DROVE IT. I drifted it, I raced it, I jumped it, FOOT TO THE FLOOR 99.9 of the time, 2 wheeled it, pulled a car out of a ditch with it, hydrolocked it twice and she still purred, 18. I loved the kick down button 19. I loved the slap stick cruise control style (which works too) 20. I loved the looks i got from other people pulling a trailer full of scrap 21. she now is retiring in my yard, with 451,000miles ready to be taken apart rusted to s*** completely This post has been edited by Benzonline: May 11 2009, 11:50 PM |

Wow
I'm surprised to see all this nonsense going back and forth. Every Mercedes is unique in its own sense. All this "paper" talk is really a bunch of crap. You should like a car for how it makes you feel when you drive it. One car might be good for one person, and another for someone else. I drive a c36 AMG right now, and lost my 2.3-16 Cosworth a few months back in an accident (sharp turn + blk ice). The c36 is a very nice car. I bought it because the 202 body is one I liked as its a mix of old and new styles. The 3.6L engine surprised me just by how it reacts to flooring the pedal regardless of its specs. That being said it comes nowhere to the rawness offered by 2.3-16's which only had 168Hp or so in North America. The 16v showed me that I didn't have enough skill to drive it, oh baby not even close. I drove it to its limits (or so I thought) constantly kissing and staying at the 6-7 K rev range. It still begged for more, and laughed at me. The c36 is more power, but more of a car anyone can drive. Anyone can push a pedal in a nice comfy sedan. My point here is that numbers mean nothing. Some cars are just special for very strange reasons. I never thought a 168 HP little 190e would be a challenging drive, but to actually drive it properly you need some BIG BALLS. This thing can give you rushes like you could not imagine. Oh man I would sell some body organs to get one back. The c36 is a walk in the park to drive as it drives itself. So lets forget all this specs mumbo jumbo. Either you buy a car because you love it, or that others love it. JUKNOWWHATIMEAN? PEACE TO ALL Attached image(s)
