Mr. Benzonline asked me to check this C43 out for him... It has a full service history at Markham and Etobicoke Mercedes dealers... as a mint trunk interior with mint AMG full size spare. Engine bay is ok needs to be cleaned up, might be a head gasket leak on the drives side but it could also be from a tech who dosen't use a funnel to pour the oil in while doing the oil change. It was raining today the car looked good no dents, very few stone chips on the hood... as far as I can tell there was no paint or body work done to the car. Exterior was wet and tires where muddy but no curb rash. Overall the exterior was much better shape then my w202. Transmission is strong no missed shifts... traction control works properly... engine revs nice. The mileage is pretty close to what they advertised.
Now for the faults... The drivers headrest did not work, the dash has dent buy the radio and would require a complete new dash if you wanted to make it perfect. The passenger seat has either scratches or chalk on it. There is a rust spot by the gas filler and two pin prick rust spots on the quarter panel, there is a larger bubbly rust spot on the passenger side rocker panel, and some on the one door bottom... it did not have any typical rust spots on the doors where the plastic trim and the door panel meet. The interior door panel on the passanger side makes a funny noise when you shut the door so its probably loose. I will post later about what I thought about the drive ride power and handling. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() This post has been edited by Andrew C280sport: May 9 2009, 12:02 PM |

Looks pretty good and doesn't seem to need to many 'priority' fixes. I guess the price and the clicks on the engine will help decide how good of a deal it is. GOODLUCK!

Wow if I could only wake up to one on the driveway but this will do. Thank you so much Andrew for checking this car out for me in Waterloo. It actually looks better than I thought for the price they want and doesnt need too too much work from what I can see. Definately a weekend to detail the piss out of it.
Things that are bugging me.....its silver, and the next 202 I didnt want silver again. It does not have BOSE (how this is not standard I don't know), doesn't have the 2 tone Tuxedo interior I always wanted...the gashes/dents of the dash near the radio would irritate me....the random rust which isnt too bad still but it has rust....and the scratched leather on the passenger seat. Thank you again for looking for me and the detailed pics....gonna sit on the fence right now. This post has been edited by Benzonline: May 9 2009, 12:49 PM |

No problem... like you I always wanted this car too... its performance was kind of a disappointment... its fast but not dramatic like some other cars I have driven... it was too wet out to get a good launch from 0-60 it would just spin. 90-120 took about 4 seconds not to bad. The engine sounded nice... I miss my monowiper... when you started it up you could tell it had a V8 engine... The price they are asking its tempting but its going to need a bit of paint work. Maybe its time for my third benz lol

Damn you benzonline now you got me thinking about the C43 and buying it as a track car... and then I don't have to worry about wrecking my daily driver.... and then C43 Twin Turbo crossed my mind and 1000hp lol

You know, those rust spots arent to bad from what I see in the picture, all you need is a brillo pad, or one of those green dishwashing pads, just rub out all the rust, take a little bit more of the pain off around the rust and just paint over it with some touch up.
its not perfect and you yourself will notice these little silver dots but it will stop the rust from spreading. |

I already got a quote to take care of that rust... there are 4 spots and Voac is talking like the whole car is rusted out... trust me I have worked on muscle cars where the only original sheet metal is the roof... I replaced an entire floor, 5x8 feet ... swaped a rusted out frame and did major welding work on the body.... this is nothing I figure for about 2 grand you could get this thing is pretty darn mint condition...
Its not going to be perfect but for 10 grand really nice AMG daily driver thats a hoot to drive good in my books if I keep talking I might convice myself to buy it... Monthly rental fee $1500 |

The only quote I'm getting is "a cheap Mercedes is the most expensive Mercedes" and were talking AMG here where just alone it would run you a solid $1500 to do the front brakes nevermind the rust aswell lol
Just looking at all the receipts the other day for my 202 and in 3 yrs of ownership, a ridiculous amount of money has been spent just to keep the car perfect, by the book, like new as it was already. |

Assuming the car runs reasonably well, engine is or should be OK, transmission if it still shifts OK should have a few more kilometers of life in it...
Offer the owner 7 see what happens and do a deal in the 7.5 to 8 range....budget to spend another 1 to 2K on the car to check it out, service, maintenance, etc. You would have 7.5 plus 1.5 = 9 to 10 at the highest. A P71 Crown Vic is at least 5 to own it, an Impala SS is about the same price as this C43. If you are looking for performance 9-10 you have a decent "hot rod" for the summer, and for a few years to come... Forget reconditioning, restorations, factory specs, good tires, good brakes, and have fun... You need the car to be safe steering, ball joints, tires, brakes, that when you get on its a safe car... The emphasis in on performance.......... |

This is basically my list...pretty simple as I don't think of this car as some throw away toy like a Honda or Impala.
My requirements are as follows: MUST HAVE : * Full Service History * 4 Decent tires * No Gearbox problems * No rust in the usual places Front wing & arches, bottoms of doors and around the bootlid lock * OEM Bose Sound system Prefered but not a deal breaker : * Would prefer Black but not too bothered if not * Xenon Lights ( I can retrofit so not a deal breaker ) * Original 17inch AMG Monoblock wheels...not aftermarket stuff and not the wheels from any other AMG model. * Plenty of meat on the brakes * Interior in good condition preferably with the original Merc overmats..I like the bright white and black interior tuxedo but again it isn't a deal breaker * Obviously the lower mileage the better but higher mileage cars around the 100k mark are fine as long as Full History comes with it. I think that's it...I intend to be keeping the car for a long long long time so as best a condition I can find..That's why I am being slightly picky with the spec and condition.
